Embracing Peace Through Yoga

For many people, when they are sad, angry or lonely; turn to different ways for comforting themselves. Yoga has become a safe place for me to feel my feelings and keep centered. Yoga can be my way to come back down when I feel like life has completely gone sideways in all of the wrong ways.

The Journey Inward

Yoga is not as much about doing the poses but more in a way, it’s an inward or introspective journey. They each are a chance for me to look within and be more okay with my life before those worlds collided. Reaching within myself and openly embracing exactly where I am; both emotionally, physically or otherwise provides the clarity that often escapes me during tough times.

Cultivating Presence

Yoga is amazing for how present it encourages you to be. In a world that is full of many distractions, yoga allows you to stop and face each moment with calmness. Mindfulness about feelings typically results in me understanding more of what I am feeling, which then helps fuel through the healing process with compassion.

Shifting Perspectives

Over the course of my yoga journey, I have observed a progression in what works best for me. I used to do a lot of strong practices, especially Vinyasa flow as it took my mind away from its regular stresses — much like how I lost myself at the gym. But as I matured, the slower mindful practices resonated more with me and that really required a reflective physical experience.

A Call to Others

To anyone who is struggling with tough emotions, I advise you to step back and be gently on yourself. You might enjoy trying gentler classes that focus more on relaxation, rest and mindfulness. These are the practices that really resonate with me, and I have found more fulfillment in each of them than I had originally anticipated.

Conclusion

It is more than physical exercise essentially, it a holistic path to self-realisation. Adopting this practice allows us to create a peaceful headspace around all the chaos life interacts with. Remember, this is not a posture of positions — it’s about working through the process to learn self acceptance and peace. So whatever it is that you are going through your path exists in yoga, guiding to a whole peaceful state of being.
