The Transformative Afterglow of Yoga

Ever got off the mat after yoga class, bouncing with creativity? That rare feeling (a deep sense of gratitude for the practice) always takes us back down memory lane to how much more it has blossomed into our lives. It is not only about adaptation and energy, it goes much deeper – a life-long process of finding ourselves in rhythm with the world.

The Inner Well of Gratitude

Well, for some even utterances of a prayer or gratitude after an amazing session feel like their heart may burst open. This can be a beautifully intoxicating experience — the bated-breath, on-the-edge-of-your-seat-you-gotta-see-what-happens-next vibe of clear water spilling and overflowing into every nook n cranny of your day like happiness espresso in slow mo! It must be an accelerant to the smoldering embers in our psyche, pushing us into depths of sweet stillness and awakening acknowledgement that we actually possess a quiet power which we've nurtured on this mat.

The Ripple Effect of Sharing

And this program and experience often leads to an incredible appreciation for a practice like yoga that many of us hold so deeply in our hearts; An almost diehard desire by some, myself included, to want share it with the whole world. Imagine how you would have changed during your time with it, and why that might make sense for any number of people to find on the internet. Soon, They're Talking To Friends And Family Members… even strangers! … about Getting started with this enriching practice. However, it often feels as though there are obstacles to offering the practice of yoga with those who stand to gain from feeling good in their own skin.

Role of Community & Nonprofits

This is where the significance of yoga nonprofits fit in. Community Yoga programs happen everywhere on our planet aiming to bridge the gap by making yoga and meditation more easily accessible for everyone, irrespective of social standing. These not-for-profits promote the physical practice of yoga alongside a desire for mental health, emotional support and community involvement.

While some of these groups work locally, others reach out around the globe. Much of their work is supported by the kindness — and freely-donated time — humanity, in its best moments. The Oath is so basic, yet the implications are profound: to make sure all people have access to yoga regardless of poverty or privilege.

A Call to Action

Let us remember to give the fire away as we sit in our aftermath. From supporting a local yoga nonprofit to getting your friend to come along with you for a class — it all helps. Celebrating every moment when in a state of gratitude and the joy that yoga creates within can bring about transformation to your life, as well as others.

When you step off the mat, pause for a moment and check in with how some of those emotions are still present. Think about how you can share that good ju-ju, spreading the love + gratitude and uplifting all in a beautiful circle of give. Like with like —as we humans naturally do everywhere except where it counts most— .
