Creating a Distraction-Free Yoga Class
For me, practicing yoga is about peace and connection within myself. Alas, distractions can block this peace, and not only affect your practice but that of others. Following are few necessary tips on what to do and not to have a more concentrated, calm background for your yoga class.
Do Arrive Early
Arriving early gives you a chance to get comfortable in your environment. Please take this time to come down onto your mat, gather any props you might want nearby and sit for a few moments in stillness breathing deeply. It will help you to keep a calm and concentrated mind before the class starts.
Don’t Use Your Phone
Of course, one of the biggest distractions in any environment is the mobile phone. If you can, put your phone in the bag — or even turn it off completely. Whether it be the sound of notifications chirping or being tempted to want to check social media … this can take you out of EXPERIENCE MODE!
Communicate with Your Teacher
If you have any injuries or require specific help then let your instructor know before the class commences. This communication will allow them to engage the class more to meet your needs where you relax and enjoy knowing they have it taken care of without having to think about what they might be able do.
Don’t Talk Excessively
There is nothing wrong with talking to other students, but do your best not carry on conversations right before or during the class period. When people start having long, proper conversations outside it disturbs the kind of meditative care you need to go into in order for everyone there (faculty and students) to truly pursue their practice fully.
Do Respect Personal Space
Your yoga mat is the sanctuary for everyone during class Honor the space of another by staying pretty much where you are. This respect is where everyone can work without being shamed
Don’t Judge Others
Yoga is an individual path, and all of us move along in our lives at different speeds. SIMPLE Keep track of your progress 24 Avoid compare yourself with others and concentrate on growing themselves. Creating a peaceful space free from judgment makes for an own more comforting and calming environment on the part of all parties.
Follow these tips and we’ll have a class where everyone can concentrate, be in the present moment and not bother anyone else to enhancing their practice.
