Reading Time: 8 minutesSavasana, or corpse Please note this is my third weekend of yoga teacher training (read about the first and the second), but only half way through.
Taking the leap into yoga teacher training can be an inspiring adventure of self-reflection and transformation. Having recently completed my third YTT weekend had me reflecting on many things relating to the practice, progression and what is coming next. 10 nuggets of wisdom that shone through after this powerful weekend!
1. The Power of Community
One of the most significant parts about this workload is our community Coming together with people who believe as you do = your support community This garners connection by communicating across shared experiences, and in the case of Jettmovers has also further externalised their learning process.
2. Embracing Vulnerability
Yoga teaches us how to be open and raw. This past weekend, I was reminded that speaking openly about my fears and concerns with those around me is empowering. Vulnerability is a power that enables us to be more human, with ourselves and others.
3. The Importance of Consistency
Growth In Yoga Requires Regular Practice I've come to realize that consistency has a deep impact on our ability and perception. It's all about not how much time do you spend on the mat, but what quality of practice happened every day during previous years.
4. Mindfulness Beyond the Mat.
At its core, yoga is more than the physical asana in class. It was a stark reminder of what mindfulness means in everyday life. Bringing the principles of yoga, such as awareness, presence and gratitude to our daily activities can help increase well-being on all levels.
5. The Journey of Self-Discovery
Peeling away layers of self-doubt in each training session and learning more about who I am. It is not only about becoming a teacher, but an inner journey to know and live my real essence.
6. The Art of Teaching
Teaching is an art and takes a lot of patience to master. I felt it this weekend. Teaching others how to practice is an art that develops with time and I can't wait to get even better at it.
7. Balancing Mind and Body
This deep relationship between the body and mind is further reinforced during yoga. There were many moving pieces this weekend around the idea of creating space for my body (and mind) to not crumble under the force of time. Both affects the other and it becomes a beautiful cycle of practice.
8. The Role of Breath
Breath is foundational in yoga and this weekend it was the basis for all of my movement. I am a firm believer that focusing on my breath while I practice only improves the quality of person I can be and helps me to manage life when it gets crazy.
9. Cultivating Patience
Part of being a yogi is practicing patience. And teaching yoga? This is the less than gentle reminder I received to allow myself time for growth; petals falling off symmetrically from their place knowing each step was a crucial part of becoming.
10. The Future of Teaching
As I contemplate the future, when it comes to yoga teaching — excited but a bit nervous. It only added to my dedication of wanting to pass these teachings onto others when I attended this weekend. I hope to inspire and encourage students on their journeys whilst I explore my own.
The training weekends are always full of new things to learn and experiences. As I move ahead, my heart is full of gratitude for all the learning and connections that this beautiful journey of Yoga gave me.
